Description

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is managed by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The temple was expanded by the Chola dynasty in the 11th century. The main shrine of Lord Shiva comprises of Shiva s three forms - Lord Theyagaraja, Lord Marundeeswarar (believed to be naturally formed and not carved) and Lord Nataraja. Apart from the main deity, the temple has two idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Murugan. Spread over an area of 1 acre, the temple houses two seven tired entrance towers and a huge tank. The architecture of the temple is simply stunning with carvings of Valmiki, Kannapa, Palani Andavar, Hanuman and Kamadhenu. During Shivratri, many people visit the beautifully decorated temple in huge numbers.
