Description

Located in Besant Nagar close to the beach, Annai Velankani is one of the most crucial praying areas and is regarded as the mecca for all Christians as well as people from other castes and religions as well. Every Thursday a special service is held in the evening from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm at the church. Inside the church, there is a mother Mary shrine who people worship as Lady of Health. Flanked by tall towers, it was built in 1972 by Dr R Arulappa who was the archbishop of Madras Mylapore. In 1985, a bigger church was constructed, after which many extensions and renovations were made. In 2003, Reconciliation Chapel and Mother Mary square were separately built here.
