Description
Shrine Basilica Bandel is one of the oldest Christian churches in West Bengal. Built in the 1660s, this church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. Pope John Paul II declared this church as a Basilica in the year 1988. The beautifully designed exteriors and aesthetic interiors are sure to leave every onlooker mesmerised. Right in front of the church, there is a ship's mast. This mast was presented by the captain, whose ship was rescued by Mother Mary, as a token of gratitude. Inside the church, there are three altars and a beautiful marble statue of Mother of Sorrows with young Jesus resting on her lap.
