Description
The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a sculpture garden in Chandigarh, also known as Nek Chand's Rock Garden after its founder Nek Chand, a government official who started the garden secretly in his spare time in 1957. Today it is spread over an area of 40 acres. It is completely built of industrial and home waste and thrown-away items. Various sculptures made up of broken ken glass bangles, china ware, discarded fluorescent tubes, clay and coal dot the premises. Walls of terracotta pots and the maze of paths, canyons and chambers display the great creativity. There is also a 14 chamber edifice with a waterfall, puddles, statues of animals and birds. The Rock Garden is one of the prime attractions of Chandigarh and is a must visit.
