Established in the year 1930, this is the oldest museum in the state and a must-visit attraction. The AP State Museum is an archaic building, located within the premises of the Public Gardens of Nampally, Hyderabad. Built by Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan with the intention of preserving the state's heritage, this building has an impressive Indo-Saracenic architecture. Once called as the Hyderabad Museum, this building was renamed as the AP State Museum in 1968, when the state government took over the administrative responsibilities. From stones and metal sculpture of ancient and medieval Andhra to contemporary art pieces of the modern era, there is an extensive collection of artefacts on display in this museum. Some of the relics and antiquities showcased belong to the 2nd and 3rd century BC. Here, visitors can find ancient Ajanta and Deccani paintings, and a Quran bearing the seal of Emperor Shah Jahan. It also houses a famous Egyptian Mummy and sculptures of the Buddhist era in Andhra Pradesh. Hence, this is certainly a place not to be missed by any art lover!
