As railways have already resumed its services in India, the question now pops up in mind is rail safe to travel? How can you stay alert and protect yourself from any sort of viral infection while boarding trains especially with the long journeys or interconnecting ones? The government of course is doing its best but you also can take some measures to minimize your risk of contracting with viruses.  Here are a few of the easy tips to maintain hygiene & safety.

  1. Carry antibacterial wipes in your bag to clean your seat area. It takes hardly a minute to wipe the train seat, tray table, window panes, metallic seat belt. Wipes are easy to pack and can easily fit in your luggage bag. Use the ones with antiseptic properties.
  2. Carry multiple sets of disposable masks&protective gloves and make sure you change it after some time. Keep it separate in a side pocket so you need not open/close bag every time. Do not throw here and there while discarding away, better wrap in a closed polybag and dump in the dustbin.  Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps to avoid cross-contamination.
  3. Try not to eat anything on the train if travel is less than 4 hours. But if it is a long journey, a good idea is to pack your snacks in a small bag and have it during your travel. Don’t rely on food outside train stations.
  4. Don’t carry too much luggage on the train. Keep it minimal.

Install the Aarogya Setu app on your mobile before arriving at the Railway Station. It is required for better tracking in case of any positive cases while on the way. And of course, maintain social distancing as much as possible.
